Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum is outlined by ‘Development Matters’ and children are expected to at least meet the Early Years Learning
Goals.
Although we work towards these Goals in a play based curriculum we also have to prepare our children for the next step of working on the National Curriculum in Year 1.
With this in mind, like in Year 1and the rest of the school, we use quality texts to inspire the children and plan for specific curriculum coverage to drive their learning forward. But the marvellous thing about very young children is that they bring their own interests and we adjust our topics and timings to fit with their interests and often use these as a hook to plan for their learning. The outdoor area is also a great place for our children to explore their own interests and for us as practitioners to respond in the moment.
